RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The agency that promotes Richmond-area tourism has a new name.
The Richmond Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau will now be known as Richmond Region Tourism. The organization helps visiting groups with accommodations and meeting space in Richmond and the counties of Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover and New Kent.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports ( http://bit.ly/Y90o1g ) that the more concise name comes with a new logo. It's a cubist-style map of Virginia with a red dot marking the Richmond area. The word "region" in the new name appears in larger print to emphasize the broader area and its many attractions.
The organization's figures show that tourists spent more than $1.9 billion in the region in 2011.
