WAYNESBORO, Va. (AP) -- The Wildlife Center of Virginia is delaying the release of more orphaned bear cubs after one wandered into a campground.
The center released four cubs last week and planned to release another four cubs.
Director of outreach Amanda Nicholson tells The News-Virginian that center officials decided to keep the cubs another couple of months, feed them minimally and limit their contact with humans.
She says center officials hope the cubs will hibernate during what she calls "this forced quiet time."
One of the cubs released last week encountered people at a campground who tried to feed and pet it. Nicholson says the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries brought the bear back to the wildlife center.
