ROANOKE, Va. -- An independent candidate has entered the race to fill a Virginia House of Delegates seat.
Attorney Kimble Reynolds was certified as a candidate on Wednesday after filing paperwork with the Roanoke Voter Registrar. Reynolds lives in Roanoke and a law office in Martinsville.
Reynolds is a former Martinsville mayor and vice mayor. He has run as a Democrat in past races.
He tells The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1aYIgHa) that he missed the deadline to get on the ballot for the Democratic primary. He says he tried to contact the Roanoke Democratic Party chairperson but couldn't because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Democrat Sam Rasoul and Republican Octavia Johnson are the other candidates in the 11th District race. A special election is set for Jan. 7 to fill Onzlee Ware's seat.
