RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia Commonwealth University's police chief is now also an assistant vice president.
VCU announced Thursday that John A. Venuti will oversee the campus police department and emergency preparedness operations as assistant vice president for public safety.
He will continue to serve as chief of police with sworn law enforcement status.
The university says the move is part of a restructuring process to better coordinate safety and preparedness at VCU. Venuti, a former major with the Richmond Police Department, has been VCU's police chief since February 2010.
