Chamber presents economic proposals to McAuliffe

Thursday - 11/21/2013, 3:08pm  ET

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia Chamber of Commerce has presented its economic development and business leadership ideas to the incoming governor.

The initiative is called "Blueprint Virginia." Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe received the proposals at the chamber's annual Economic Summit in Williamsburg on Wednesday.

The plan calls for a more flexible approach to pre-kindergarten funding for at-risk children and a greater emphasis on science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health instruction at all levels. It also calls for vigorous efforts to retain Virginia military assets and support military families and veterans.

McAuliffe told the more than 600 business leaders at the summit that the document will be a valuable resource as his administration develops the state's economic development plan for the next four years.
