LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) -- An ambitious $500 million campus rebuilding project at Liberty University includes the first high-rises on the Lynchburg campus.

The university founded by the late Jerry Falwell says it is building six nine-story residence halls.

The first high-rise residence hall will provide enough beds to replace all 16 of the original Champion Circle halls built in the same location in the 1970s.

The first new residence hall is expected to be completed by the 2014-15 school year. It will provide 1,200 beds for students at the Christian university.
