PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) -- Two beached buoys are scheduled to be removed from beaches in Norfolk and Virginia Beach on Tuesday.
The Coast Guard says the buoys will be towed off the beaches and into the Chesapeake Bay by the Navy. A Coast Guard crew will hoist the buoys aboard the cutter Frank Drew and assess them for damage. The buoys then will be returned to their assigned navigational positions.
The buoys washed ashore during recent storms.
The Coast Guard says the public should avoid the buoys because they could be unstable and unsafe to climb.
