RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The Governor's Conference on Energy opens this week in Richmond, with Gov. Bob McDonnell scheduled to address the gathering on Wednesday.
The conference runs from Tuesday through Thursday at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. The Virginia Offshore Wind Development Authority meets Tuesday at the Capitol. It will be its first meeting since Dominion Virginia Power got final U.S. approval of its offshore lease bid.
The energy conference typically attracts dozens of exhibitors and speakers on a range of subjects. This year, breakout sessions will be held on "fracking," wind generation, biomass and other energy-related topics.
Energy development has been a key component of McDonnell's administration. His ambition has been to make Virginia the "energy capital of the East Coast."
