PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Most of the furloughed Department of Defense civilian employees at Fort Lee are being brought back to work.
Fort Lee says in a news release that Department of the Army civilian employees should return to work on Monday, or on their next scheduled duty day, unless otherwise instructed by their supervisor.
Civilian employees of non-Army Department of Defense entities are advised to check with their organization for instruction.
On Saturday, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced that the Pentagon is recalling at least 90 percent of the estimated 350,000 defense civilian employees who were furloughed in the partial government shutdown.
More than 5,000 Department of Defense civilian employees work at Fort Lee. About half work for the Department of the Army. Fort Lee says many of these workers were furloughed.
