RICHMOND, Va. -- The Virginia Department of Corrections says an inmate has died after apparently being attacked by another prisoner.
The department says it happened Thursday at Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt. The victim received immediate medical attention and was taken to an Emporia hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officials were withholding the 33-year-old victim's identity until relatives could be notified. He was serving a sentences totaling more than 13 years on convictions that include grand larceny and burglary.
No staff or other inmates were injured, and the department provided no information on the attacker.
