MADISON, Va. (AP) -- A Newport news man charged with capital murder is been deemed competent to stand trial on charges he killed three relatives in Madison County.
A circuit court judge has scheduled an Oct. 21 arraignment for Rashad Matthew Riddick. The 25-year-old defendant is charged with the killings of his uncle, 55-year-old James Clark Jackson, Jackson's 53-year-old wife, Karen Lee, and her daughter, 26-year-old Chante Latrice Davis.
All three were found shot in the head in February 2011. Riddick was arrested in Newport News two days later.
The Culpeper Star & Exponent (http://bit.ly/1dWhl5n ) reports that Circuit Court Judge Daniel Bouton ruled Monday that Riddick is capable of assisting his attorneys and understanding the legal proceedings against him in the case.
Riddick has filed motions seeking to represent himself.
