Friday - 9/6/2013, 4:29am  ET

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- A spokeswoman for a Newport News high school says vandals have damaged a new soccer field.

Peninsula Catholic High School spokeswoman Molly Bowes tells WAVY-TV (http://bit.ly/14unuxa) that neighbors called police early Thursday to report vehicles tearing up the field.

Police spokesman Lou Thurston says three people, all in their 20s, were issued summonses for trespassing, and one of them was charged with being drunk in public.

Construction of the soccer field was completed earlier this week.
