STAUNTON, Va. (AP) -- A Staunton hiker who's been missing since last November is being remembered by friends and family for his kindness, generosity and love of the outdoors.
A memorial service for 60-year-old Robert "Bobby" Fitzgerald was held Saturday at Staunton Grace Covenant Church.
Pastor Steve Paulus tells The News Leader that Fitzgerald's cousin and a member of the congregation suggested the service. They believed that it would be a good way to comfort the family.
Fitzgerald went missing on Shenandoah Mountain. Police believe he lost his cell phone while hiking on the mountain and went looking for them the next day. He was reported missing days later when he failed to show up for his job in Stuarts Draft.
