NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- A two-day operation to round up people wanted for crimes in Newport News has produced 95 arrests.
The warrant operation was conducted Wednesday and Thursday. Those arrested face 38 felony and 95 misdemeanor charges. Fifty-two traffic and misdemeanor summonses also were issued.
A full-page ad appeared in the local newspaper Wednesday listing wanted persons. The police department says teams of officers attending morning and afternoon briefings were given packages of outstanding warrants and deployed to try to locate and arrest the suspects. Tips received through the department's Crime Line were passed on to those officers.
The Virginia State Police, the U.S. Marshals Service and other agencies assisted.
