NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- The votes are in, and the Virginia Zoo's baby giraffe has a name. It's Kellen.
Zoo officials in Norfolk said Wednesday that more than 4,000 people submitted names, and the winner was chosen by zoo staff, members and social media followers. A woman suggested naming the giraffe Kellen in memory of her baby boy who died of SIDS.
The name Patches came in second, followed by Zarafa, Mandela and Twiga.
The giraffe was born June 6 to father Billy and mother Imara. He weighed in at 150 pounds and was 6 feet 4 inches tall at birth.
