CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) -- Researchers are using radar technology to survey a plantation cemetery in Chesterfield County where one of Thomas Jefferson's daughters is believed to be buried.
Historians believe other Jefferson relatives also are buried in the cemetery at the Eppington Plantation.
Media outlets report that a team of researchers began surveying the cemetery on Tuesday. The survey is expected to be completed Wednesday.
Radar technology is being used to estimate the cemetery's size and to identify where the burials are.
Frances Epps VI built the plantation house near the Appomattox River in the late 18th century. After Jefferson's wife died in 1782, he brought his daughters, Maria and Lucy, to live there. Lucy is believed to be buried in the cemetery.
