Experts: Va man competent for triple slaying trial

Thursday - 6/27/2013, 10:59am  ET

MADISON, Va. -- Medical experts at Central State Hospital say a Newport News man accused of killing three relatives is competent to stand trial.

Media outlets report that Madison County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Bouton plans to rule on 25- year-old Rashad Riddick's competency at a hearing set for Aug. 15.

Bouton announced the hospital's recommendation during a hearing on Wednesday.

Riddick's lawyer, Joseph Flood, disagreed with the medical experts' finding. Madison County Commonwealth's Attorney George Webb says he's prepared to move forward with the trial.

Riddick is charged with three counts of capital murder. He's accused of shooting his uncle, his aunt and his cousin at their farm in February 2011.

During a hearing in August 2012, Riddick attack Flood in court.
