‘Ride to Work Day’ encourages motorcycles, scooters

WASHINGTON – If it seems as though there are a lot more motorcycles and scooters on the road Monday, there’s a reason. It’s “Motorcycle and Scooter Ride to Work Day.”

Since 1992, the American Motorcyclist Association has been encouraging people who own these fuel-efficient vehicles to participate in this event, held every year on the third Monday in June.

Aside from being extremely fuel efficient, motorcyclists can use High Occupancy Lanes and don’t have as many issues finding parking.

Riders also get to their destinations 20 percent faster, according to the nonprofit Ride to Work.

“Riding is a form of personal mobility that saves energy, helps the environment and provides a broad range of public benefits,” said Andy Goldfine, this year’s event organizer, in a news release.

And, for those who drive other vehicles, be extra careful. Watch for motorcycles and scooters.
