NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- A Suffolk home health care services provider who pleaded guilty to defrauding Medicaid has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison.

Fifty-eight-year-old Angie L. Gilchrist was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Norfolk to two years and nine months for health care fraud.

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride said Gilchrist filed about 385 false claims with the Virginia Medicaid program between October 2008 and October 2012.

Gilchrist sought payment from the program for respite care provided to 38 Medicaid recipients. But Cuccinelli and MacBride say no care was provided.

Gilchrist fraudulently obtained more than $294,000 from Medicaid.
