CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- The University of Virginia's capital campaign has exceeded its $3 billion goal.
The university says in a news release that it received donations from more than 220,000 individuals and corporations.
The gifts included both small and large contributions. Some donors transferred ownership of art, real estate and rare and historic maps to U.Va.
Gifts to the campaign haven funded more than 1,000 endowments, construction of new buildings for science, engineering and medical research and the first phase of the Rotunda renovation.
