RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Southwest Airlines will start daily flights to Richmond and Norfolk on Nov. 3.
The Dallas-based airline says it will have one nonstop flight between Orlando, Fla., and Richmond International Airport, taking over a route now flown by AirTran Airways. Southwest bought Orlando-based AirTran and its Atlanta hub in 2011. AirTran will continue offering flights from Richmond to Atlanta.
Southwest also announced that AirTran will offer nonstop flights between Norfolk International Airport and Atlanta starting this fall.
Southwest carries more passengers within the United States than any airline, although it is the nation's fourth-largest airline by passenger miles behind United, Delta and American, which all offer long international flights.
