MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating the death of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers volunteer whose body was found at Philpott Lake.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office says searchers found the body of 69-year-old John Madins in shallow water near a boat ramp Saturday.
Madins was last seen about 24 hours before his body was found. The body has been sent to the medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
Lt. Eric Winn tells The Martinsville Bulletin (http://bit.ly/Y8GH7O ) that Madins was a volunteer at Bowens Creek. In exchange for his help, he lived there in a camper.
Winn says foul play isn't suspected.
