NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- The USS Laboon has returned to its home port after an eight-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea.
The Laboon arrived at Naval Station Norfolk on Monday.
The guided-missile destroyer was deployed as part of a NATO defense plan to protect Europe against a potential ballistic missile attack.
It was relieved by the Norfolk-based USS Barry.
The Laboon has 35 officers and 240 sailors who are led by Cmdr. Chris Cigna. During this deployment, the Laboon had 83 Sailors who received their enlisted surface warfare qualifications and 40 Sailors re-enlisted.
