CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- The University of Virginia's honor system is undergoing a change.
WVIR-TV (http://bit.ly/YkAQL1 ) reports that students approved a proposal that allows students accused of an honor violation to avoid expulsion if they confess. Students who admit guilt would be suspended for a year.
Students rejected another proposal that would have eliminated juries of random students. It would have established a permanent, trained jury of students.
The honor system prohibits students from lying, cheating or stealing.
Voting on the proposed changes was held last week.
