Unusual items clogging Elkton's sewage pumps

ELKTON, Va. (AP) -- Mop heads, adult diapers, towels and other unusual items are clogging sewage pumps in Elkton.

The items have shown up at Elkton's north lift station in recent weeks.

The Daily News-Record (http://bit.ly/X5ZjDx ) reports that town officials are asking residents to be more careful about where they put their waste.

Inboden Environmental Services Inc. operates the wastewater facility for the town.

Town Manager Kevin Fauber told the Town Council last week that a recent inspection by Inboden employees found foreign substances obstructing both of the facility's pumps. He says one pump is broken and probably needs to be replaced.

Fauber says it took several hours to clear the backup but there weren't any overflows.
