RICHMOND, Va. - Microsoft Corp. plans to add two facilities at its modular data center in Mecklenburg County.
Gov. Bob McDonnell said Wednesday that the $348 million expansion will create 30 jobs.
Microsoft Data Center Services general manager Christian Belady says the expansion will increase the facility's computing capacity, software capabilities and server utilization. It will allow the company to meet customer demand in the region for cloud services more efficiently.
The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission will provide $2 million for the project. The Governor's Opportunity Fund will provide a $200,000 grant to assist the county with the project.
