Pirates seek return to contending ways in 2012

HAMPTON, Va. - Hampton looks poised to get back to its contending ways in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in its fourth season under coach Donovan Rose.

The Pirates have a new offensive coordinator in Earnest Wilson III and two quarterbacks who gained experience last season in Travis Champion and Bradford Hudson. The quarterbacks will have Javaris Brown (44 catches) and versatile tailback Antwon Chisholm (29 catches) as primary targets. Chisholm also ran for almost 800 yards and eight touchdowns last season.

The Pirates' have eight starters back on offense, and nine on defense, including their top five tacklers from last season's 7-4 squad. Linebackers Delbert Tyler and Lyndell Gibson lead the defense. Both topped 100 tackles last season.

They will play in front of an experienced secondary led by Justin Blake.
