Va. school objects to proposed college name

AUGUSTA, Ga. - A Virginia university is objecting to the recommended name for the new Georgia university that will result from the merger of two Augusta schools.
Morris News Service reports ( http://bit.ly/RsYLXn) that Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va., sent a letter to the state Board of Regents, requesting that it select another name.
Georgia Regents University is being recommended to the state Board of Regents at its meeting Tuesday. Officials with the Virginia school say that name could create confusion about the two schools.
A committee of staff, faculty, students, alumni and community leaders in Georgia proposed three names, with the recommendation to select Georgia Regents University.
Georgia's University System is searching for a new name for the college being created by the merger of Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University.
