MARTINSVILLE, Va. - About 2,000 people attended a concert by actor Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band to raise money for a southwest Virginia Marine who lost his limbs while on a mine sweep in Afghanistan.
The cover band performed Thursday night at the Blue Mountain festival grounds in Martinsville. It benefited Patrick County Cpl. J.B. Kerns, who lost his right arm below the elbow and both his legs below the knees last year in Afghanistan.
Media outlets report Kerns attended the concert.
The band is named after Sinise's character Lt. Dan in the film "Forrest Gump." The concert was rescheduled from March after Sinise, the star of TV's "CSI: New York," was in a car accident.
Sinise's foundation has helped build several custom-designed homes to meet the needs of wounded veterans.
