RICHMOND, Va. - The Virginia Department of Transportation has launched an enhanced version of its 511 traffic-reporting information system.
The agency says motorists can download a free mobile phone application that will allow them to access real-time traffic information, including online video of traffic conditions, and call the improved 511 system.
New features include real-time access to traffic cameras, travel times, electronic message signs and traffic maps. It also includes information that shows the fastest routes to the Virginia Beach oceanfront area and the Outer Banks Expressway.
Virginia's 511 system has received more than 11 million calls and 8 million website visits since its inception in 2002.
