STERLING, Va. - Drivers who took the toll road connecting Washington Dulles International Airport with Leesburg, Va. this week helped to raise about $260,000 for local organizations.
The Dulles Greenway's 7th annual "Drive for Charity" set a new record on Thursday, when all proceeds from tolls were collected for the March of Dimes and the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter, among other groups.
Officials with the privately owned 14-mile toll road said Thursday was the heaviest traffic day they have had in the past two years.
The Dulles Greenway event has so far raised more than $1.5 million for local charities and scholarships.
