WAYNESBORO, Va. - Authorities are on the lookout for a man who took off from Western State Hospital.
Waynesboro Police Sgt. Brian Edwards says that his department got a call about Joseph Henschel's escape early Tuesday morning. Edwards said that it's unclear why Henschel was being held in Western State, a psychiatric facility in Staunton.
Police charged the 34-year-old Waynesboro man in March with stealing an Augusta County school bus and crashing it into a Waynesboro business to steal stimulant drugs called bath salts. Authorities said he was under the influence of bath salts during the incident.
Edwards says that a grand jury is scheduled to consider the case against Henschel on Monday.
An email message left Tuesday afternoon for a Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services spokeswoman wasn't immediately returned.
