ROANOKE, Va. - An interior designer has been sentenced to four months in jail and four months of home confinement for rigging bids to get work with Roanoke's bus system.

Diane Holdren pleaded guilty in January to embezzling government funds. She was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Roanoke.

The 51-year-old owner of Holdren's Interiors submitted fabricated and inflated bids and invoices on an office renovation project at Valley Metro, which had received an $80,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to replace furniture.

The U.S. attorney's office says Holdren also was fined $3,000 and ordered to pay nearly $46,000 restitution.
