RICHMOND, Va. - Two Virginia State Police sergeants are being honored by the Mid-Atlantic Association of Women in Law Enforcement.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Chesapeake division and Sgt. Becky G. Curl of the Salem division were recognized Monday in Philadelphia during the association's 26th annual conference.

Anaya was honored for her leadership in helping launch "The Got Sole Project" in Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore. The program began in 2010 and has helped more than 1,000 migrant families with lightly used socks and shoes.

Curl was recognized for her role in apprehending a Franklin County deputy who was wanted by Roanoke Police as a suspect in the slaying of his ex-wife. The apprehension involved an exchange of gunfire.
