The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that the Deputy Michael C. Walizer was killed Saturday en route to assist another deputy who had made a traffic stop. The deputy's cruiser ran off the side of Route 5 and struck a tree. He was wearing a seat belt.
Walizer was an 11-year law enforcement veteran who previously worked with the Newport News/Williamsburg and Richmond International Airport police departments and the Caroline County Sheriff's Office. He left a wife and four children.
