ASHLAND, Va. - Horse racing's late Triple Crown winner Secretariat will be celebrated at a program at Randolph-Macon College.
The event will be held Saturday at the college in Ashland to mark the birthdate of the horse born March 30, 1970, at Meadow Farm in Caroline County. He went on to win the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and Belmont Stakes in 1973, setting records in each race. The horse died in October 1989.
Organizers say the event also will pay tribute to Secretariat's stable mate Riva Ridge, who won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes in 1972.
The celebration is moving to Randolph-Macon after the recent closing of the State Fair of Virginia, which had hosted previous gatherings at the Meadow Event Park.
