CLIFFORD, Va. - Authorities have identified a body found in a pond in Amherst County.
Amherst County Sheriff Jimmy Ayers III tells media outlets that 69-year-old Jean Braxton of Amherst may have been trying to reach a house in the rural area, which has no streetlights. He says she may not have seen the pond.
Braxton's body was found Friday in the pond near U.S. 29 in the Clifford area. Her disabled vehicle was parked nearby.
The cause of death hasn't been determined. The body has been sent to the medical examiner for an autopsy.
