LONDON (AP) - The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected Russia's appeal against an International Sailing Federation decision to declare Spain the winner of semifinal races in the Olympic women's Elliott 6-meter class.
Russia wanted to continue semifinal racing Saturday after the governing body terminated the contest on Friday due to lack of wind in Weymouth.
CAS says its sole arbitrator dismissed an appeal by the Russian Olympic Committee at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, allowing Spain to advance to gold-medal races against Australia.
Russia lost to Finland for the bronze medal on Saturday.
CAS said reasons for the ruling will be published later.
