ZooLights begins Friday night

WASHINGTON – An annual tradition that lights up the night begins at the National Zoo Friday.

ZooLights kicks off at 5 p.m. The daily event will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Jan. 1 .

Visitors will enjoy more than 500,000 LED lights plus a new light show set to music.

On Dec. 12, the zoo will offer military personnel, with a valid military ID, discounted parking and 10 percent off at the gift shop. Military families will also receive free hot chocolate, cookies and a photo opportunities with Panda Claws and two zoo tubing passes.

DCist reports that about 180,000 people visited the zoo during the lights festival last year. A laser light show will be set to “Frosty the Snowman” at the Elephant Community Center.
