WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Washington nightclub has issued a statement expressing sadness about the death of a 19-year-old University of Virginia student who collapsed at the venue.
Mary "Shelley" Goldsmith of Abingdon, Va., was at Echostage Saturday night with friends. WRC-TV (http://tinyurl.com/lcdob25) reports that she said she wasn't feeling well and asked for someone to call 911. She collapsed before emergency medical workers arrived and died at a hospital.
Managers of Echostage say in a statement that they are saddened to hear about her death. They say they will cooperate in the ongoing investigation.
The woman's father, Rob Goldsmith, says she had some sort of "heart and pulmonary" attack. The cause of death is undetermined, pending an autopsy.
Echostage bills itself as the District of Columbia's largest nightclub, at nearly 30,000 square feet.
