Chuck Brown Memorial Park breaks ground

WASHINGTON — The city honored the “Godfather of Go-Go” today at the groundbreaking for the Chuck Brown Memorial Park

D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray, city officials and family members of the late Chuck Brown joined together to break ground on the memorial located in Ward 5’s Langdon Park.

The mayor originally submitted plans for a 900-seat amphitheater as a memorial after Brown’s 2012 death, but the community was concerned about noise and parking problems that could potentially have arisen.

Instead, a more subdued plan was adopted. The park will feature a wall dedicated to Chuck Brown’s life and music and will offer outdoor interactive drums.
