WASHINGTON (AP) -- A newly renovated playground has opened in the District of Columbia.

Mayor Vincent Gray and other District officials cut the ribbon Thursday on the Palisades Playground in northwest Washington.

The ribbon-cutting was held at the end of the annual Palisades July 4th Parade and Picnic.

The playground has movable play equipment, including building blocks, and features Native American symbols and themes.

It was opened as part of the Play DC Playground Improvement Project, which the Gray administration says is the largest playground renovation project in D.C. history.
