WASHINGTON (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for stealing a woman's car by pretending to be a D.C. official.

Forty-one-year-old Thomas Williams of Washington was also ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution at sentencing Friday. He had been convicted of false impersonation of a public official and other offenses.

According to government evidence, in August, Williams went to the woman's home and told her he had orders to take her car, which was parked in the driveway. Prosecutors say the woman begged him not to take her car, but Williams threatened to arrest her.

Williams and another man towed the car to a junkyard in Maryland, where he sold it for scrap metal.
