WASHINGTON - The streets were lined along P Street from 22nd Street to Dupont Circle and north on 14th Street between P and S Streets for the 38th Annual Capital Pride Parade. The mammoth event spanned across 17th Street to the Thomas Circle neighborhood.

D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray told WTOP that it was the largest turn out for the Capital Pride Parade that he could remember. More than 100,000 had been expected. Grand Marshall Lynda Carter, TV's Wonder Woman, was blown away. "It's unbelievably great to be a part of civil rights, again," she says.

Organizers estimated there were more than 170 floats or contingents including a half dozen bands. The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Marching Band came from New York City.

Many groups tossed beads and other trinkets and at one point the air was filled with yellow condom packages. The mood was most merry or as one observer put it, "Gay!"

Sunday is the Capital Pride Festival on Pennsylvania Ave.
