WASHINGTON (AP) -- Washington's convention center authority Events DC has selected Goodwill of Greater Washington to lead an effort to train, recruit and screen residents for as many as 600 jobs at the new Marriott Marquis convention center hotel.
The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/17YjfLC ) reports funding for the $2 million job training contract awaits approval by the D.C. Council. The program aims to help district workers learn career skills for a position.
The hotel is slated to open in 2014.
Goodwill bid for the project in conjunction with the University of the District of Columbia Community College, the United Way and the hospitality industry group Progressive Partners. The local United Way chapter pledged to contribute $350,000 to support the program.
The job training contract is set to run through Dec. 15, 2014.
