No plans in DC to move workers to health exchange

Wednesday - 4/24/2013, 7:04pm  ET

WASHINGTON - There's been no talk in the District of Columbia of moving government workers who get health care from the city onto the private insurance exchange that's being established under President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

Washington state is considering moving some part-time government workers onto the exchange to save money. But officials with the city exchange say there are no similar plans in the nation's capital. Neither Mayor Vincent Gray nor the D.C. Council has proposed such a move.

In other states, some part-time workers are being directed to work less than 29 hours a week to avoid the law's rule requiring health benefits for all personnel who work at least 30 hours.
