Green Line running again after hours-long delay

WASHINGTON – Metro’s Green Line shut down during rush hour Wednesday, causing confusion and upset travelers.

Metro cut power to the third rail in the area after an insulator started to smoke around 5 p.m. The line was shut down for hours between Navy Yard and Southern Avenue.

Two Branch Avenue bound trains were then stuck in the tunnel. Some passengers on one of the trains then decided to evacuate themselves.

Metro says some passengers reported minor health issues likely related to anxiety.

Metro sent some shuttle buses — but photos showed massive crowding on platforms and outside stations.

Green Line service is now running again but travelers should expect residual delays.
