Troubled D.C. youth nonprofit to release audit

WASHINGTON (AP) - A youth nonprofit that a former D.C. councilmember used to steal money from the city will finally release an audit of its finances.

The D.C. Children and Youth Investment Trust tells The Washington Examiner) it will release the audit for the 2010 fiscal year in the next 30 days.

Former Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr. was convicted last year of stealing more than $353,000 in city funds he steered through the organization. He's serving a 3 1/2-year prison sentence.

The 2010 audit could provide insight into Thomas' illegal activities and on any possible collaborators or flawed practices. The nonprofit trust receives the bulk of its funding from the district government.

The trust's new executive director, Ed Davies, says he wants to reduce the influence of elected officials on the organization.
