WASHINGTON - Washington's National Cathedral is preparing to dedicate a new carving of Mother Teresa in a section of the church devoted to human rights.

The carving being dedicated to the nun Thursday is on the cathedral's so-called "Human Rights Porch." Other people honored with carvings on the porch include former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and civil rights leader Rosa Parks.

Mother Teresa built shelters, orphanages and clinics around the world and won the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. She died in 1997 and was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2003.

The Mother Teresa carving was sculpted by Chas Fagan of North Carolina. It was then carved in place by cathedral stone carver Sean Callahan.
