WASHINGTON (AP) - The nation's drug czar will be speaking at the graduation ceremony for women who have completed a parenting and anti-drug program in Washington.
Gil Kerlikowske is scheduled to speak Tuesday at D.C. Superior Court during the recognition ceremony for 11 women graduating from Family Treatment Court.
Family Treatment Court is a 15-month program for mothers and other female guardians of children who have been accused of neglect. Participants spend the first six months of treatment at a facility where they live with their children and take parenting classes as well as receive substance abuse education and treatment. After those six months they participate in a recognition ceremony and continue with care outside of the facility.
